The Community Chest originated with the United Way during World War II. When the movement started in the early 1900s, the Community Chest was the “chest” of money that was collected by members of the business community to help solve society issues and problems — health, homelessness, disease, etc.

We are so fortunate to have the interest of NJ residents who reach out and contribute to this heartfelt mission. Our Community Chest page answers the question we are often asked, “where can I donate…..” Below are several examples of volunteer categories that exist with state and county agencies throughout New Jersey.

“The best place to find a helping hand is at the end of your own arm.”
 — Swedish proverb

Senior Centers and Resources             Clothing Drives

County Parks         Support The Arts campaigns

Beach cleanup         Meals On Wheels

Soup Kitchens and Food Pantries

Holiday Giving         Transportation services

Mentors         Literacy counselors

Hospice and hospital support
