From the Director’s Desk… What’s In A Name, Change!
In 1999, after nine months as a county coordinator for the national Project Linus organization, in Parker, Colorado, our local chapter sought its own non profit designation to form Project Linus NJ, Inc. Today, there are multiple charities utilizing some form of the LINUS name and it’s become confusing.
In celebration of our tenth year comforting New Jersey children, through the gift of a handmade blanket, we are launching a new website, debuting an exciting agency logo and focusing our full attention on the core mission. Blankie Depot welcomes your volunteer spirit!
Since establishing, we’ve welcomed more than 12,000 dedicated time givers to our charitable network. Our volunteer team is comprised of individuals who enjoy crafting during their leisure time, service-minded students of every age and skill set, organized knit and crochet clubs, state quilt guilds, senior citizens corps, local artists and designers, government employees, delivery drivers who assist with recipient donations, community business partners who help fund our efforts and corporate volunteer teams who provide immeasurable resources in helping us meet our goals. In other words, community-minded people like you and me.
Everyone who joins our team embraces a Pay It Forward* philosophy. Blankie Depot volunteers have earned a well respected reputation for compassionate giving and we expect that tradition to continue for years to come.
In my proud role as Agency Director, I have learned that it takes an open heart and special partnerships to nurture a grassroots organization. Without the support and guidance of others in the community who offer insight, skills and passion, ideas that merit exploring would be left on a dream pile. Our “volunteer village” was built on the power of positive thinking—and I encourage you to join the crafting for charity movement. Become a time giver and create a cozy blankie for a New Jersey child in need.
Hugs from here,
Hillary
